Hearing is a capacity; listening is conscious effort — and the difference shows in seven behaviours the other person can see.
The lesson
Before you start
Omar, the gap between hearing and listening shows up clearly at work: a colleague explains a problem while your eyes stay on the screen. This lesson gives seven practical behaviours you can use in any meeting or quick desk conversation.
💡 Imagine you are finishing a report due at four when a colleague comes to explain a change in the figures. If you stay on the keyboard, you are only hearing. Listening means moving your hand off the keyboard, turning toward him, letting the phone ring, noting the revised figure on paper, then closing with: so we change the sales number in the second table before four, correct.
